"First real competitor for iMac, but not as pretty."

    by danielszabo1981 on September 8, 2008

Pros: Sony's great display coupled with a powerful computing platform in 6/10 (looks) package makes for a great value alternative to the iMac lineup.

Cons: Buying a Sony, which usually means you're investing in poor customer service and tech that is usually overvalued in 5 months. Strangely synonomous with the Apple Experience. ;)
PS - wall mounts on this model would've been nice to see.

Summary: While the JS190J isn't nearly as pretty as the polished iMac all-in-one, there is no question that you're getting more for your money when it comes to performance. The benchmarks featured in this article speak for themselves, as does the bottom line when held against the iMac. The added "feature" of shipping without bloatware adds an element of appeal to the seasoned pc buyer/builder(oddly enough, in this industry, shipping with the absence of bloatware is considered a "feature"...*sigh*), and in regards to the bigger picture for Microsoft-based computing, Sony seems to have taken a favorable and much needed step in Microsoft's fight against Apple (there has been a considerable absence of quality in MS-based all-in-one offerings, and Sony seems to have closed that gap a bit).

I would personally have liked to see a wall-mount option for this model. As HD flat TV's have evolved, they have left their humble beginnings as entertainment-center-dwelling boxes and taken their space-saving position on walls. PC's of this nature should follow suit...if for no other reason than because Apple doesn't offer that particular option.

In all, this should a value buy and a definite consideration if you're in the market for an all-in-one. However, no tech review would be complete if it wasn't noted that you could get this same package for ~80% of the cost if you went with a stand-alone desktop solution.
